Transcontinental Travel Infographic

Transcontinental travel always fascinated me. In 2011, I took a ten day, eight thousand plus mile cross-country train trip - to put it in perspective, we went far enough in those ten days just in America to travel from Yellowknife in Canada's Northwest Territories to Alberto de Agostini National Park in Chile. We live in a big country.

With this map, I marked the routes of important firsts in transcontinental travel: Lewis and Clark's expedition on foot, the wagon trails of the 1840's, the first transcontinental railroad, the first commercial trip you could book, the first non-stop commercial flight and the first complete coast-to-coast interstate highway.
